PlayerStat Data’s Gameweek 12 Best XI

A smaller gameweek this week, with just four games played across the weekend. We collected an average of:

  • 965 player events per team (successful and unsuccessful)
  • 244 defensive events per team (successful and unsuccessful)
  • 378 passing attempts per team (successful and unsuccessful).

Below is Gameweek 12, PlayerStat Data Team of the Week *(min. 70 mins played).

We have gone with a 3-4-2-1 formation this week.

GK – Ed McGinty (Sligo Rovers) – as mentioned last week, our GK model is still in testing, but McGinty got the nod just ahead of James Talbot at Bohs. A fine game from McGinty, keeping waves of Bohs’ attacks at bay. An early 1v1 save against Devoy and then an excellent save in the second half to tip a Wright shot onto the post and grab the rebound. A keeper getting stronger and stronger as the season progresses.

LCB – Lee Grace (Shamrock Rovers) – defensively excellent, won all his def. headers and 1v1 situations. 98.8% pass completion on 101 passes and 98.5% success rate on all passes towards the Waterford goal. Brilliant possession numbers and his goal just on half-time. Excellent game from Grace.

CB – Roberto Lopes (Shamrock Rovers) – another excellent performance from Lopes. 1 unsuccessful pass from 86 in total. 4 passes in every 5 made towards the Waterford goal. An absolute bullet header for Rovers’ second goal and defensively close to perfect – just one unsuccessful defensive action across the board. Best numbers we have seen from a defender since the restart.

RCB – Luke Byrne (Shelbourne) – arguably Luke’s best performance of the season. Red card aside, his numbers were excellent. 96% pass completion rate, 94.75% progressive pass success rate. He had a 100% possession regain success rate & won all his tackles. Against the big Kogler, he won 85.71% of def. headers as well. An excellent performance cut short by the sending off.

LWB – Shane Griffin (St. Pats) – another competitive position in the TOTW, Griffin just edging it. 75% success rate in def. 1v1 situations, successful in all his att. 1v1 situations and another clean sheet under his belt. Pats’ main attacking threat down the left once Billy King was taken off.

RWB – Andy Lyons (Bohs) – a close call here between himself and Rory Feely. A player who has been unlucky to miss out on the TOTW before and now just gets in ahead of a competitive field. Did very well defensively against the dangerous Junior Ogedi-Uzokwe (winning 77% of def. 1v1 situations), 83.33% success rate in progressive regains and two dribbles.

DM – Gary Deegan (Shelbourne) – 93% pass completion success, 87.5% def. 1v1 success rate, 84.6% progressive regains success and blocked one shot and one cross. His GPS stats must make for great reading, covers a lot of ground for his team.

CM – Jamie Lennon (St. Pat’s) – interestingly, the player had decent performance stats in an attacking sense, for a more holding midfield player. Won all his att. 1v1 situations, created three chances for teammates & a 89.83% pass completion rate [77.8% progressive pass success rate]. Dynamic performance in the midfield for Pats.

AM – Dawson Devoy (Bohemians) – outstanding performance from Devoy. An assist for the goal, 100% success rate in att. 1v1 situations, 4 efforts on goal and created four chances for teammates. One of the standout performances in a Bohs win last weekend.

AM – Jack Byrne (Shamrock Rovers) – played a role in 5 of Rovers’ 6 goals (scored one, one pre-assist & three assists). Defensively, he had 100% progressive regain success, and in possession, an 86.36% pass completion rate on 88 attempted passes. Added to this a success rate of 80% in passes towards the Waterford goal. Nearly an obligatory place in the TOTW each week.

ATT – Andre Wright (Bohemians) – scored one and had a running battle with Ed McGinty throughout the game (6 efforts on goal). 77.7% success rate in holding up the ball in when isolated; 4 established touches in the opposition box and a pass completion rate of 78.57%. A fine overall performance from the player & would have had more but for the performance of McGinty.

Unlucky to miss out:

Rory Feely (St. Pat’s) – a good performance at right-back for Pats; a clean sheet, 100% def. aerial success rate and an excellent 100% att. 1v1 success rate. A very tight call for TOTW between himself and Andy Lyons.

Aaron McEneff (Shamrock Rovers) – 93.75% pass completion rate (from 64 attempted passes), 100% success rate in def. 1v1 situations, progressive regains and def. headers. Would have been a shoo-in for a place in the team, but for his substitution on 60 mins. James Talbot (Bohemians) – a return to Bohs’ starting XI and it looked like he had been there all this time. Very solid on the goal, agile and his quick distribution added to the speed at which Bohs played the game.
