We reverted to a 4-3-3 formation this week.

GK – Mark McGinley (Finn Harps) – unlucky to be beaten by yet another deflected goal, McGinley kept his side in it with three excellent saves. With two of them just before half-time to keep Cork City out, it would have made for a much different half-time for Harps.

RB – Dale Holland (Cork City) – defensively excellent, won all his def. 1v1 situations and tackles; with a 50% success rate in def. aerial duels. There was also the one crucial defensive action, cutting out a nailed-on Harps 1v1 opportunity. With the ball, he was progressive in possession – 3 dribbles, 1 chance created for teammates and 59% progressive pass attempt rate

LB – Tyreke Wilson (Waterford) – another familiar name in the TOTW, fine defensive numbers again. 21 defensive events in the 90 mins – 100% progressive regain rate, won all his tackles and 100% clearance success rate (and a clean sheet). At the other end, he had two efforts on goal and created two chances for others. Top it off with 90.63% pass completion rate & progressive pass success rate of 87.5%.

RCB – Rob Cornwall (Bohemians) – unbeaten in 3 aerial duels and 7 def. 1v1 situations; 1 blocked shot and a blocked cross. Add to this an 85% successful clearance rate and it was quite the performance at the back for Cornwall. Justified a place in TOTW.

LCB – Robbie McCourt (Waterford) – 86% success rate in def. 1v1 situations, 1 blocked shot, 100% successful tackle rate, 100% progressive regain success and 100% success rate in clearing the ball from immediate danger. Like Tyreke Wilson, a third clean sheet in 4 games across September. Solid at the back and a worthy member of the TOTW.

CM – Chris Forrester (St. Pat’s) ­ – not even taking that goal into consideration, Forrester had a tidy 82% progressive regain success rate, 100% att 1v1 situation success rate and a 90% pass completion rate from just under 50 passes. Shels struggled to handle him in possession also, drawing a 2nd highest number of fouls (4).

CM – Robbie Benson (St. Pat’s) – tight call this one. 1 assist & created two chances for teammates; a 94% pass completion rate from over 30 passes and 90% of these passes, successfully made towards the Shels goal. Like Forrester, Shels struggled with Benson in possession, fouling him on 3 occasions.

AM – Jack Byrne (Shamrock Rovers) – not much to be said really. 2 goals, 1 pre-assist. 4 efforts on goal, two chances created for others and 3rd highest successful AND total pass attempts over 90 mins. Stand-out performer every single week.

RW – Adam Hammill (Derry City) – another competitive position. Dynamic in possession with 4 dribbles and 6 att. 1v1 situations. He created 4 chances for his teammates and a strong presence in the Bohs box (4 established touches – 4th highest over the weekend). He was also tidy in possession, just under a 92% pass completion rate and 88% of his progressive passes successfully completed.

LW – Ali Coote (Waterford) – Waterford’s floating 4-man attack was a joy to watch and Ali was a tough call among some of the other contenders. His numbers were excellent on the day – 5 dribbles, 1 assist (a fine headed assist for Smith’s wonderful volley). 100% success in att. 1v1 situations and a very solid 89% pass completion rate from just under 45 passes. A tight call, but we feel that his data around dribbles and att. 1v1 situations wins the day here.

ATT – James Akintunde (Derry City) – 1 goal, 4 efforts on goal, 2 chances created for teammates and EIGHT established touches in the Bohs’ box. Add into this, 100% success rate in holding up the ball in isolated areas. He was not the only striker to score over the weekend, but his strength & link-up play were the main reasons for his inclusion here.
